FAQs – Boat rental in Croatia

Berths, prices and season

When sailing in Croatia, you can choose from several types of berths:

  • Marinas – They offer full service (electricity, water, Wi-Fi, showers, fuel, restaurants), but are also the most expensive.
  • Buoys – Cheaper than marinas, available in numerous bays, often offered by restaurants (sometimes free with a meal).
  • Anchoring – Possibility of free anchoring in natural bays. It is necessary to follow the rules and avoid protected areas.
  • Public ports and berths – They are located in smaller towns, are often affordable, and offer basic facilities.

Average costs:

  • Buoys: €50 – €120 per night (catamarans pay ~1.6x more)
  • Marinas: €80 – €400 per night (depending on location and season)

Combining all options throughout the week gives the best balance of price, comfort, and experience.

  • May, June, and September – Ideal for more experienced sailors: fewer crowds, warm sea, stable conditions.
  • July and August – The most popular months, ideal for beginners because the sea is calm, but the crowds are bigger.
  • April and October – Calm and more affordable, but the sea can be colder for swimming.

Most marinas have secured parking spaces. The price of weekly parking is usually between €25 and €30.

Permits, insurance and documentation

If you want to operate the boat yourself, you must have:

  • Croatian permit  (Voditelj brodice)
  • International Certificate of Competence (ICC)
  • Radio Permit (VHF)

If you do not have the necessary permits, it is mandatory to hire a skipper. Also, when taking over the boat, you must have a certified crew list.

Yes, all boats have hull and liability insurance. The crew is insured for the duration of the charter. We also recommend personal travel insurance for all guests.

Official and up-to-date information can be found on the website www.croatia.hr – it includes information on visas, borders, customs, and other useful topics.

Skipper and crew

Yes, as a guest, you are obliged to provide meals for the skipper, regardless of whether you eat on board or in a restaurant.

The skipper has his own cabin on the boat and stays there throughout the trip. If there is an additional crew, at least one member remains on board when you are not present. Please note that on smaller boats, skipper cabin might not include toilet and skipper will have to use guest toilet.

Final cleaning of the boat is charged additionally (depending on the type of boat). The skipper is not responsible for it.
